What Is The ELKs?
It was back in 1931 when the Elks National Foundation (ENF) started helping out the students by fulfilling their academic dreams by awarding Elks scholarship. Since then they started awarding more than $3 million every year for the financial assistance of the students.
Finding the right scholarship is still a very daunting and time-consuming task for many aspiring learners. Finding the right one for continuing education is indeed very necessary. There are different federal student aid available for learners in the United States which makes it easier to bear the educational expense. Requirements

The award is given on the basis of leadership, scholarship, and financial aid. Some of its requirements are
  • Applicant must be a U.S. citizen who is pursuing a full-time four-year degree program from an accredited degree-granting U.S. university or college.
  • If the participant is interested in continuing education abroad the grant must be billed through an accredited, U.S. degree-granting institution.
  • A high schooler cannot receive more than one award or grant in an academic year.
  • An application form along with an Educational Aids analysis is required.
  • Candidate must be studying in high school.
  • Males and females can compete separately.

Award

It is awarded to 500 applicants every year. The amount to be granted ranges from $1,000 to $12,500 per year. These are allocated on a national basis for graduating high school seniors by state quota and are renewable on a quadrennium basis.
20,000 applicants applied for it in 2023 among which 500 applicants were selected and granted $2,440,000. During this, they are interviewed by the national judges.
Traditionally the top 20 finalists participate in a leadership weekend which is held in Chicago where they compete for the two first-place awards which are worth $50,000; then there are two second-place awards of $40,000 and two third-place awards which are of of $30,000.
The remaining 14 participants of the leadership weekend receive an award of $20,000 while the rest 480 runners-ups receive $4,000 each.
For the 2024 season, the leadership weekend is scheduled for April 11-14 in Chicago.

ENF is a dream of 1928’s National President John F. Malley whose mission started with a plan of uniting the forces of the Order into a mighty army to service mankind. It was at the annual Grand Lodge Convention in Miami that he called the delegates to take action by voting that initiated a $100,000 grant to establish ENF.

The name “Elks” scholarship is given after the African Buffalo and its stately qualities of peaceful and protective nature.

An apprentice may not receive more than one ENF financial aid in any one academic year. Issued by the Chicago office of the Elks National Foundation they are provided and paid directly to the schools and under no circumstances a payment is made to the participant. For the 2024 season, it is providing the following Educational Aids as scholarships.

The “Most Valuable Student” scholarships are for U.S. citizens who are currently high school seniors. The high school graduates can not apply for it. To get this financial aid, you are required to get your applications which are available online on their official webpage, or can mail them. It is provided on the basis of financial assistance that is needed and upon the leadership qualities of a student. This year 2023, the deadline to apply for it is Nov 13.

Another one is the Legacy Award. It is for those college-bound high school seniors who are the grandchildren or children of dues-paying Elks. These are only honored to accredited US American schools, colleges, or universities.

The application is available online or can be mailed. It should be completed and submitted online. The deadline for the year 2023 is due by Feb. 5, 2024.
